Off-Topic / go-stereo.com down?

Anyone know what happened to go-stereo.com? Looks like the domain name has expired. Do we need to start a Kickstarter to fund it :P ?

Welp...3ds max crashed while I was attempting to copy the objects into a new scene. After restarting, my map has decided to appear. I guess it was just hungover from Thanksgiving...thank you for the help!

3
I have tried increasing the exposure, but the background is simply black. I do not have a CoronaSun turned on - the scene is at dusk so the HDRI and some scene lights were providing my illumination.

4
I have a scene that will not render the direct of my HDRI map. I can see the map in reflections / refractions. The map does not appear in the beauty pass of the Corona frame buffer or in any file format that I export.

I opened a different scene and don't seem to have the same issue. I assume there must be a difference in environment / exposure / camera settings between the two scenes but I can't pinpoint what it might be. Any one have any ideas?

I have tried both the Max environment slot and the Corona environment slot. I am using Corona 1.5 (hotfix 2) and 3ds max 2017. I did recently update 3ds max and did not have the problem prior.

Edit: Other things to note...I have played with the exposure and it isn't a matter of the HDRI map being too dark. I have also tried overriding the "Direct visibility ovverride" in Environmental overrides just to see if I could get anything to show up with no success. I can see the map in my viewport when I use the Max environment settings and display the map as the background.

Edit 2: I have also tried different HDRI files. I have successfully rendered in this scene with the one I had in use. Again, this was prior to updating max and also prior to updating Corona to 1.5 (I believe). Surely before hotfix 2.

Edit 3: Map does not appear in my Direct or RawComponent render elements.

Edit 4: The HDRI map appears when I use Scanline Renderer. I have tried using a CoronaBitmap instead but that doesn't appear either.

Here you go (from the Alpha builds sub-forum). Should be usable for eternity!

I had the same situation but still ended up with lines on my renderings. I have yet to try this fix for mapped drives but maybe it'll help you: http://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,3214.msg23864.html#msg23864

Where are your material maps located? Some of us have had issues with server file locations.

I come from an architecture background and am fairly new to viz within a professional setting myself, but I thought I'd drop in my two cents anyway.

Almost any rendering engine can get the job done, and the "best" software will vary from job to job depending on what is needed. I've had fine results with Revit's gimpy version of Mental Ray, 3DS Max Mental Ray, 3DS Max V-Ray, old versions of V-Ray with Rhino, cheesy but quick animations from Lumion, Keyshot for architecture, and of course, Corona.

I believe that once you really learn one or two engines (particularly materials) and really understand common workflows, that knowledge will translate to other engines. I find that things I've learned with even Revit rendering (or hell, even Accurender 3 rendering that I did as a student!) apply across the board in one way or another because the concepts are generally the same.

V-Ray material tutorials will still go a long way with understanding Corona's shaders; Bertrand Benoit's Materialism article is a great place to start if you haven't seen it already (http://bertrand-benoit.com/blog/2012/04/15/materialism-1/). If you can get a hold of the second printing, Alex Roman's From Bits to the Lens book is also a great resource as far as rendering "theory" might go. Of course, the best way is to just play around and experiment!

This material converter is also quite useful if you happen to be dealing with V-Ray or Mental Ray scenes.

How I was wondering if anyone knew and could elaborate upon the proper steps to set up slave machines for the new distributed rendering system?

Also, do you need 3DS Max installed on slave machines?

Thank you for your time spent regarding this question!

You do indeed need Max installed on the slave machines.

I just did a test, rendering from home using my work machines as slaves. I was shocked to find that it actually works!

Successfully ran some tests a couple days ago. Textures are fine if they're stored on a network drive (and the drives are mapped the same on each machine). I take it this would slow down your render by a little (or a lot?)?

Just out of curiosity (and not having the time to test this just yet), but do you need a licensed version of Max on each machine or can it just be a demo? I noticed the slave machine opened an "unregistered" version of Max (even though it has a licensed copy installed).

Assuming you have your slave machines/LAN already setup, you can choose to install the DrServer when you run the A6 installation exe. I did get the following error message when I tried to open it:

Cannot open/read/write file ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Corona\Drserver/drData/DrConfig.txt'

If you get this message, try running the DrServer.exe as an adminstrator. Have yet to actually run anything quite yet, but I hope that helps someone out there!
