This one came out really nice I think.

Perfect. I was already following this account, but wanted to make sure all my images are tagged with the official account.

[Max] I need help! / Re: Render Shadow Only
« on: 2018-11-09, 19:26:31 »
I'm gonna revive this thread since it's basically my question too. As you can see in the attachment, in the past, I would render out the beauty pass with alpha channel. Then, using C4D's engine, put a plane and a background object with a white material on it, set to compositing background to make it seamless. Also put a Background Object with the same white material set to Composting Background. Then a tag on the car to NOT be seen by Camera, but still cast shadows. The output would be that solid white with just the shadow. In After Effects, I would have to layers with the shadow layers set to Multiply to get my shadow working.

I can't seem to get this same effect with Corona. I've tried Multi-Pass, but I get shadows for EVERYTHING in the scene. Does this workflow exist yet in Corona for C4D?

[Max] General Discussion / Official Corona Instagram?

Just curious if there is an official Corona instagram account I can follow? There are several accounts with lots of nice images, but they don't seem like they are official.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: black texture problem

I'm curious, would this problem go away completely if you simply eliminated all accents? Just use "Arriere-plan" instead of "Arrière-plan"?

I mean, what's the point of being grammatically correct just for the behind the scenes files, right? This seems like how some servers don't like spaces in file names, or apostrophes, commas, slashes, etc.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: multi instance rendering
« on: 2018-10-23, 22:52:44 »
The devs are aware of Mograph Render Instance and Multi-Instance issues. I'm sure they will figure it out. Mograph is a huge part of using Cinema 4D and would limit it's use to C4D users if these issues weren't fixed.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona Multi-Pass
« on: 2018-10-18, 17:07:44 »
Thanks for the reply. I'm attaching my test file. A simple cube moving across the screen and spinning. I first tried this test on a scene with Mograph Instances, but I figured let's see if it works on a simple scene, but I must be dumb. Well, maybe just a little.

The render element is generated and yes, nothing. All 0,0,0. In the VFP and Photoshop. Just black. Alpha and other passes seem to work. In the example video Corona posted (using Max), there were only a couple of settings to set up and the file generated is bright colors. That's what I was expecting to see.

I haven't used RSMB either, but you can use it in trial mode with watermark. I'm running on a Mac by the way. I will test on Win 10 box to confirm.

Do you think RSMB will work with Corona's Velocity pass based on this info?:

What is the motion vector format for RE:Vision Effects’ products?

Motion Vectors
We use pixel space motion and not 3D or 3D normalized coordinates. That is, each pixel value of the motion vector image should represent the motion of a pixel within one frame time, in image space.

In our coordinate system, the lower-left pixel represents the origin of the coordinate system, (0,0), with positive Y-axis pointing up. That means a motion vector value of (1.0,1.0) represents a motion of a 1.0 pixel in each of X and Y toward the top right corner of the image.

[C4D] General Discussion / Re: Corona Multi-Pass

The reason I'm trying this method is for a workaround to the Mograph-motion blur issues the Corona devs are working on. Figured if this pass works, then I can try Real Time Motion Blur plugin in AE.

I just tried it with a Corona camera, saving the output to file and enabling Multi-pass output in the Save dialog. Still nothing.

No updates on multi-pass and velocity vectors?

I'm reviving my old post here as I just tried to get a Geometry Vector pass and all I get is a black channel. I followed the help files, disabled all motion blur, tried Camera vs. World. Just black. Is this feature fully implemented yet for Cinema 4D? I also tried it on Windows 10, C4D R20. Same results. I would post an image, but it would just be a black square. ;-)

@Blade Thanks for the reply. I did a test to see if what you say is true about C4D's motion blur issue, which I haven't seen myself. I replaced all the materials with a standard checkerboard C4D material. The cutout trees on the terrain are set to multi-instance. The result looks like the motion blur is working, is it not? See for yourself.

Cinema 4D R20.

OK, I did some more testing using the advice here. This is getting pretty good now. The car on the left is using images of the actual lights and some reflection mapped onto the outer geometry. Looks decent when not too close ore animating. The car on the right has no maps at all and only using Corona materials using the Reflection and Refraction channels. Looks pretty nice I think. Now, the clear sections down below are proving to be a challenge. I have a colorless material similar to the red, but I've added some displacement to try and get those ridges and to distort the lens behind it. Still gotta work on that part.

I appreciate the help on this. I'll post again with updates.

Um... “thanks” for that reply? I think you need to write a fiction novel. I didn’t realize I made so many typos. I was tired.

:-)

@iacdxb Thank you for the link and effort with the scene. I’m going to learn a few things.

Thanks for the tips. I didn’t know there was a special C4D section for this type of question. Plus, my brain has to get used to the idea of NOT using transparency (opacity) in materials like this. I’ll post my results.

Also, your other comments were funny, except I’m not sure how you meant the line about the steel. Son I’m American, I’m a little sensitive about the September 11th attacks here. In fact, I’m close to Yhe Pentagon. Anyway, it bothers me when I see people repeating things like that. Steel doesn’t not melt at the temp of gruel, BUT it does weaken a lot when heated up. Imagine all the weight above those floors and then the steels is weakened. Ok, I’ve said my piece. Now back to 3 S.

[C4D] General Discussion / Help Getting Realistic Results
« on: 2018-09-14, 18:25:29 »
As some of you may know, I use C4D and Corona for automotive renders and animation. One area I've always had trouble getting realistic results is the red and yellow plastic lights around the car. I have had to resort to using images of the actual lights with some reflection and sticking them on the outer geometry. In most cases, this works just fine, but since Corona is so good and fast at rendering this sort of thing, I want to get realistic transparency, reflections and refraction in 3D. I'm attaching just the rear light assembly of the current model I'm setting up. Does anyone want to try and get this to render in a realistic manner and share the file for the community to learn from?
