This is because Corona supports Hair an Fur modifier only in geometry mode. Go to effects window (8 key), go to hair and fur, set mode to geometry.

Hello,

The hair did show when I changed the effect to geometry, but the materials (set in the modifier pane of hair and fur) are not showing, no matter what I do I'm always ending up with a grey when rendering.

My lighting is correct and the rest of my scene is showing fine.

Thanks in advance.

Material parameters in Hair&Fur modifier are valid with buffer or mr prim rendering method only. Geometry method uses material from parent mesh. Unfortunately this is the only way Corona can render Hair&Fur at the moment.
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

Yes, material is taken from base mesh. Easiest way to have different materials for mesh and hair is to duplicate the base mesh, assign base material to duplicated mesh, assign hair material to original mesh, hide original mesh.
