From 20:30 in the presetation there are some nice tools/scripts what IKEA uses in house for their workflow:
- "Using Assets" for easy browse and merge
- "Pick and Place"
- "IKEA physics/ Earthquake mode"

Are there any existing matching tool/script for these?

- as a substitute for Ikea's assets manager you  can use connecter

https://www.designconnected.com/connecter

- in 3dsmax 2015 and above there is tool called select and place

- to place objects in another object use massfx toolbar

In fact, the select and place tool in 3dsMax was developed from IKEA's idea. It's the same deal.
I almost never get to use it because every shitty asset from internet has wrong pivot and life is too short to correct such crap.

Connecter is good, we use it at work. If you drag a model from it to a max viewport you can place it on surfaces, just like "pick & place". It actually works better than max's "pick & place", which has been very crashy in every version I've tried.

Oh come on, with transform toolbox it takes less than a second to correctly place pivot and select and place tool is one of the two reasons why i'm still on the max2016 and not going back to max2014 (the last acceptably working version IMHO)...
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

Yep, I used select and place maybe a couple of times.

romullus, in the Soulburn script Pack there is a nice transform toolbox, called "PutPivot". And, in Scriptspot, there are a script (2012) called AutoPlace. So, you can come back to 2ds max 2014 ^__^

As for the select and place feature in 3ds max it has "use base as pivot" option (right click the icon).
It helps a lot the process of managing the assets in the scene and you should use it more :).

I had high expectations for PhysXPainter last year but it was so prone to crash to the point of being unusable. Meanwhile things might have changed, i don't know.

I was wondering how PhysX painter works with more complicated objects, any everyday users? If what Dalton wrote is true it's just a gimmick.

It only takes less than second if it's actual object and not geometry with some invisible part elsewhere and nope, still too long :- ).

Same as above, it doesn't work properly for poor groups.

you know you can make the tool use the base of the bounding box instead of pivot right? :P it's glorious for exactly the reason you mentioned.
