Hi,

Is there any possibility to render a pass with another material eg checkerboard or a custom one. I would like to render out something that would facilitate tracking inside of ae or nuke, so a material with tracking points would be preferable. Maybe I'm missing out on some basic technique for this but it was an idea I had since I'm mixing a lot of cg with actual footage.

You're in luck, there is CTexmap render element, that does exactly what you want: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000518484-what-is-ctexmap-render-element-

Do you actually want to track CG footage? Why no export camera? Just curious.

Hmm, I can see how that would work with a moving camera in a static environment, but what if there's moving objects involved?

You are in a 3d package - you have all data, postitional rotational and even all verticies at you disposal.

You can export camera movement, rotation... object movement, rotation to all other formats and programs.
You dont have to export just shitty image renders ;]

Just google 3dsmax export camera/object position to nuke/after effects.

Ok I know about plugins like maxtoae and that's too expensive for me especially since I know so little about it. I do also know that there's some scripts working with rpf files but I don't think it would be as effective as tracking a 3d element with custom track points. But if you know more I would love to know.

Getting the position and rotation based on the axis of a specific object wouldn't make it easier if say I would like to add a decal or some small detail to a specific part of that object?

I'm away from my studio and a pc a couple of weeks but after that I will evaluate some workflows and see how a tracking ctexelement works out. Right know all I've got is a Mac...

RPF works like a charm for camera! As for details, you will have to read up yourself. I did some VFX with vray + AE two years ago and exported 20 some object position, rotation for VFX and fake lighting in real world footage with a free script, but can recall neither link nor name.

Anyhow all the coordinates are at your finger tips. It would be incredible dump to say - let's not use perfect positional data and brute force our way through hours of image tracking, that may or may not result in a good solve.
