[Max] Resolved Bugs / Re: Stuck on 'Computing sec.GI'
« on: 2019-12-03, 19:33:31 »
Hi Maru,

I also thought about the RAM but it levelled out at 9gb. I have 64gb installed.

I just uninstalled Corona 5 and went back to the last version of 4 and the scenes rendered perfectly straight away. So it does seem to be something related to Corona 5 and my setup.

I will try and upload a scene tomorrow.

Thanks.

[Max] Resolved Bugs / Stuck on 'Computing sec.GI'
« on: 2019-12-03, 10:39:17 »
Hi,

Since updating to Corona 5 on my workstation I have encountered this problem in I would say 75% of my max scenes when I hit render.

In the rendering dialogue, when the current task gets to Computing sec. GI the progress bar will get to around 90% and then just hold. the time elapsed keeps increasing but essentially max has crashed. Hitting stop or cancel doesn't do anything and I have to stop Max in the Task Manager. This is happening on the simplest and lightest scenes. I have tested it with just one piece of small geometry and it still happens. Only since i updated to Corona 5 has this problem occurred.

I am having to rebuild scenes from scratch to get them working which is taking up a lot my time during the day and isn't ideal.

Has anyone else had this issue? I am using Max 2019.

Thanks.

Thanks Maru, will give that a try as well.

We have tried using max's 'tiles' for displacement as well to get rid of any maps and texture sizes and still had the same results.

thanks for the info about filtering. We will have a play with those and see if it helps.

Cheers.

Hi. Yeah we have tried that. It helped a little but when we have brick taking up such a large part of a 5k image it didn't really do much and would often crash our scene if we lowered it too much.

Thanks

Hi,

On various external images we have been creating lately we have been using displacement for bricks and have experimented with numerous settings but always run in to some trouble.

If you look at the attached image you will see that in the render on the left, the brick isn't 'sharp' and the edges all look a bit crumbled and are not nice and sharp, even though the b&w map we are using (top right of the image is nice and neat and sharp.

Has anyone else had this issue? Its the only thing in Corona that is holding us back at the moment and if we can rectify this we will be super happy!

Any help would be great.

Cheers,

James

Hi,

We are using Corona 1.7.4 and are having a recurring problem where we send an image to Backburner and the 8 render nodes we have are not kicking in and helping out with the render when using DR.

We have 8 render nodes which have the DR spawner on them and they are all on 1.7.4 as well. Sometimes it works just fine but many times it doesn't and the only way to get them working is to close down the DR spawner and open it up again. This isn't ideal when we have lots of images queued up overnight and there is noone to restart the spawners. Last night we had 12 images queued up and only 3 got rendered as no nodes kicked in so each image took 4hrs.

Anyone else had this or got any ideas?

Is there a script or something we could implement which closes and starts the spawners again for each render?

We are using 3DS Max 2017 by the way...

Thanks,

James

Hi,

We updated all our waorkstations and nodes a couple of days ago to 1.7.3 and everything was fine until we rendered a set of images using the 8 nodes here.

All of the elements saved out as just some weird looking lines and dots. See attached.

Whilst it looks pretty cool and artistic it is clearly not correct.

When the images are rendering they look fine in the frame buffer so it must be when they are saved out?

The images were saved as exrs and distributed rendering was used.

Anyone else seen this before?

Thanks.

I seemed to have got it working be deleting the ENU folder on the node. Something must have corrupted in there...

Unfortunately this didn't work :(

Still no elements from that one render node. Very odd....

Any other ideas?

Its a powerful machine so its frustrating we can't use it!

Thanks,

J

I will give it a go!

Hi there,

We have a small farm of 8 render nodes and whilst 7 of them are behaving, just one of them is not saving out the render elements at the end of a render. It says out the basic RGB beauty pass ok but no elements?

I have checked the obvious things and the drive we save frames to is mapped correctly, the version of 3ds max we are using is the same as the others, most up to date version of Corona is installed. Basically this machine is a clone of the other 7.

If anyone has any ideas or something I could look at I would really appreciate it.

Cheers,

J

Thanks. Somehow just couldn't see it on the site!

So I think a couple of us may head over to this from the UK. Has anyone been who can vouch that its worth the time? it looks real good. Would just be nice to hear from anyone who has been before.

Cheers.

This looks really good but how much does a ticket cost? I may have gone blind but can't see a cost on the site?
