Hardware / Re: Color space/mode
« on: 2024-11-21, 12:30:47 »
Hi Juraj, sorry for the late answer. I had no idea you had answered. We ended up using AdobeRGB and sending clients in both AdobeRGB and sRGB. It`s far from ideal, but it works for now. Unfortunately, there`s not much talk about this thing on the forum, but it`s crucial in our business.

Hardware / Color space/mode

We are struggling a bit between our and our client monitors, so we are not sure if they see the same colors, etc. What is the best way to go, srgb/Adobe RGB or something else? We just bought an Asus PA32UCXR, which is set to Native mode by default, but we arenĖ™t sure what color space that is. Any advice/setup would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, this worked! Any other modifiers that are problematic like this one?

[Max] I need help! / Corona Mapping Randomizer slowdown
« on: 2024-07-16, 09:25:27 »
We`ve experienced some slowdowns in rendering, I believe, since C9 and never got to figure out what seemed to cause that, but the latest tests show it`s the Corona Mapping Randomizer. I believe there was a bug before with the UVW randomizer; it seems it shows up again. I`m uploading an interactive render test of a simple scene, with and without the Corona Mapping Randomizer applied to the wood texture. With it applied, rays are down by 50%. Do you have any insight on this?

Great news, thanks Tom!

Hi, in the RC1 changelog, there is no note on 25% speed up for dual CPU systems, while it was noted on a previous daily build. Is there 2cpu speed improvement in RC1?

Hi,

We would like to investigate this issue further.

Can you please send us a ticket along with your scene and some repro steps?

Hi, just made the ticket.

I am also checking on this. It is crucial to get info on whether dual CPU systems will be better optimized or not.

Here is a sample of this issue. DR at higher passes numbers has double the amount of noise compared to a single render.

Hi Tom, all nodes have the same hardware, except a dual CPU, but that one is never the master. We`ve set the sync interval to 90 sec. Everything lower messes the nodes when rendering 6k renders. Approx. each node does 1-2 passes in 90 seconds, so it`s not 20-30, which would result in a higher pass cumulative count after each sync interval. Nodes/master are separate from the day-to-day work and only render one render at a time. This is something that has been happening for a while now, and we use DR only when we are in a hurry to render 1-2 6k render due to this issue. It would be great to hear exp. for other forum members who use DR.

[Max] General Discussion / Single vs DR render passes
« on: 2024-05-16, 15:35:55 »
Hi, I`ve wanted to ask this for a while now. When rendering an image to 3% noise, a single machine render takes around 60 passes in 6k resolution, but for a DR-rendered image with eight slaves, it takes more than 200 passes to reach 3% noise. This is not isolated case, it happens in all situations/3d environment. Is this a known fact?

Thanks,
Hrvoje

You can use a single cache for multiple cameras. The only risk is that the quality of the cache generated from camera A will be a little bit worse than if it would be generated for camera B, but that should not be any major issue. It should not cause any rendering slowdown or other problems.

Since you mentioned sea waves, if it's an exterior scene (like a beach) without interior elements or areas illuminated by strong GI, maybe the best solution would be to use path tracing as both the primary and the secondary solver? The UHD cache is mostly useful for interiors.

Thanks, will try that for the next animation. We made a hdcache for each camera in the end since we were in a hurry. Thanks!

No one? Devs?

Hi all, this might be a noobish question, but we are about to render a big resolution, so we want to make sure we do everything correctly. Is it possible to use the same HDCache file for multiple cameras of an exterior animation with only moving people and sea waves, or do we need to make an HDCache for each camera independently?

Hardware / Re: Dual Epyc 9654 experience?
« on: 2024-03-14, 11:11:15 »
Hi maru, yes we can share this scene, but it happens in all the project i am working on, tested this on 20+ different projects/3dsmax files and in every case it is the same: the geometry phase takes 10 x longer? also compared this with a friend (ryzen 5900x) and his geometry phase was arround 12 x faster (same scenes/projects, tested this with over 10 diff max files) so share?

It would be great to sort it out, and it would help others decide whether to go with 9654/9754. Can you please share the scene with Maru to sort it out?
