Incredible!

Well done, what an amazing outcome.

Hi,

I have planks of wood scattered across a curvy spline (it's planar in one direction), they are scattered with Chaos Scatter.

If I hit the "convert to max geometry" button, I don't get expected results. Each plank is slightly off from where it is/where it should be.

Hopefully screengrabs tell the story better... cheers.

Damn dude. These are stunning.

Yep, the only thing that sticks out is the couch fabric, could use some attention. I like the scatter workflow for the carpet (I use it too) but those footprints are a bit too much :)

Well done.

Edit: Upon further inspection, that throw rug you have looks amazing! Also scatter I guess?

General CG Discussion / Virtual production - camera rigs
« on: 2022-06-13, 14:34:32 »
Hi all,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with 'virtual production' in 3ds max?

I'm basically wanting to use my Oculus Quest 2 (or any other device, iPhone is most likely, I guess) to capture a camera movement and import it into max.

Something like this (but  this looks quite cumbersome and not well developed):

or this: https://virtucamera.com/

Any leads? Much appreciated! Cheers

Damn. Nice. The first and 4th ones especially have such a nice photographic soft touch to them.

Good work!

Also, at the same .45 point or so the light becomes black in reflections.

3+ years later and this issue is still not resolved...

[Scatter] Feature Requests / Re: Chaos Scatter feedback
« on: 2022-06-03, 15:48:27 »
Hi,

Another query/request.

When I use the near/far includes splines on a scatter across a surface the number of scattered items is kind of confusing/messed up.

I understand the way the scatter works it takes as sample of surface and divides it up into x number of points to place items on. So this might be a very unreasonable ask:

But if I have a big surface (say a football field) and I want to scatter an object in a small inclusion area I must make the number very very big to ensure the inclusion area is filled. So I must enter say 100,000 items, but only say 5,000 will be scattered.

If I was scattering on a surface the size of the inclusion area (but not using any inclusion spline) and I set this scatter count to 5,000, it would scatter 5,000 pieces.

Is it possible to somehow get these numbers to be somewhat more controllable/predictable?

I haven't done the best job here explaining myself, so hopefully it's understood? Cheers!

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: Decal modifier?

+1 :)

I'm finding decals to be very useful, but their limitations to be equally frustrating. So often I end up reverting back to older workflows.

[Max] Feature Requests / Re: The most wanted feature?
« on: 2022-05-30, 14:21:22 »
In my opinion these are patches which could have been added as 7.1. Sorry but these are not changes to be called a new version with double price. I'm more interested in having more GPU based speedups and a full-fledged Corona add-on for Blender (not an exporter) than access to Cosmos that is just a Chaos service and Scatter that is just another way that I can obtain with already buyed ForestPack.

I would stay with lower priced Corona without Cosmos and Scatter. These features are just excuse.

We are side tracking here, but please keep in mind that if you keep renewing your Corona subscription, you can keep the old pricing and licensing and have access to Cosmos, Scatter, and other new features of Corona 8. As an existing customer, you do not have to move to the new pricing and licensing options.

Please see our blog for more information (and note that it was released in 2021, and also shared on Facebook and the forum):

Hi Maru, so I don't keep sidetracking this discussion I have asked a relevant query in another thread ("Corona in 2022: new features, visuals, licensing, and more!"), if you don't mind having a look for me?

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is an inappropriate thread to ask this.

I understand (from the "most wanted feature" thread discussion going on at the moment about pricing increase etc) that as an existing customer my price isn't increased and I still experience all the previous benefits?

From my experience, when I had a single purchased a single license each month (recurring) I was always able to work* on 2 PC's with the previous license service/subscription. I think this was normal behavior?

Now, it seems I only am ever able to work on 1 PC at a single time. Is this right? Must I now buy a second license if I want to jump between PC's to work?

Until today my workload hasn't warranted this, but while I was working/rendering on PC#1 and jumped over to PC#2 Corona render was working fine but only scatter failed because of license issues... so what's going on?

(* = render with Corona in 3ds max)

Thanks for any info...

Set the image environment mode (or something like that) in the bitmap texture node settings to 'Screen' rather than spherical

Just chiming in here with a potential bug I experience:

If I type in a temp value and press OK/enter, the light color doesn't change. It just defaults back to white or the previous color.

If I use the slider, the temp works as expected.

Is this replicable for others? Cheers!

I use Davinci resolve. It's free.

It's not super simple, but I got the hang of it quite quickly.

If you want a really simple solution, just load the frames into Photoshop and export them as a video file.
