Hardware / Re: Another PC build
« Last post by Nejc Kilar on Today at 12:37:07 »
Howdy! The build looks pretty cool to me although I'm a bit unsure about the memory - those look like RDIMMs to me and if they are then I'd probably switch them out with regular sticks. I keep forgetting if ECC is supported on the consumer platform these days but for Corona you don't really gain anything with RDIMMs. I'd use the saved up money to go with something thats on the motherboard's QVL list and does 5600-6000MT in terms of speed.

Motherboard wise, if you're interested, I think the b650 Pro Art from ASUS might be interesting - it imho has a better PCIE slot layout although you do lose one of the gen5 m2 slots because it changes to gen4 (Pro Art has 1x gen5 and 2x gen4 whereas your choice has 2x gen5 and 1x gen4). This is totally subjective though, I just like the layout on the Pro Art better in case I'd want to run something bandwidth intensive in both the first and second PCIE slots because Pro Art does x8 / x8 whereas the ROG Strix you've chosen does x16 / x4 (because it is via chipset). Again, totally subjective, if you don't think you'll ever run anything like that the one you've chosen is plenty awesome imho.

Oh and the Pro Art has 1x 2.5Gbe and 1x 1Gbe ports built in - if you're running a local render farm or whatever that might be handy depending on how you approach that (I've got my WS connected to the internet via one port and the other port goes to the local network only where the render nodes live :) ).

NVME wise I've recently started using WDs sn770 and sn850xs as they are (to me) quite nicely priced but apparently also amongst the fastest gen4 drives you can get. Compared to your Corsair Core XT choice the sn770 is 40€ cheaper and seemingly faster.
Don't quite me on that but maybe if you look at a couple of reviews and check out your local prices there might be an opportunity so save a couple of pounds there.

Hope any of the above is useful and do note, its nit picking. I quite like your build myself and the only "real" question mark would be that memory.

[Max] Bug Reporting / Re: MultiTexture odd behaviour
« Last post by Avi on Today at 12:11:47 »
Hi,

I am unable to reproduce this issue on my end.

Please see the video attached.

I hope you are not referring to the 3rd party multitexture plugin but to Corona multimap.

I am using 3ds Max 2024 and Corona 11 HF 2.

Hi,

A similar issue was reported earlier and as per my knowledge this has been already fixed in the newest version of Corona which is Corona 11 HF 2.

Triplaner Performance issue: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=40848.0

Can you please upgrade to Corona 11 HF 2 and see if the problem persists?

You can download Corona 11 HF 2 from here: https://corona-renderer.com/download

[Max] I need help! / Re: Proxies making file take forever to save
« Last post by Avi on Today at 11:34:43 »
Hi, Yes

Sorry, I misunderstood this. You are correct that with only 10-20 proxy object in the scene, the file size would not have been that big. It would take a lot of proxies and even then the file size increase would be very very less.

I can test this more thoroughly if you can share your file to see what actually is happening.

There can be other causes too, such as if you saving it locally or on a network. Or you are using a SSD or HDD etc.

Feel free to attach the file here, I will have a look.

I thought that main benefit of proxies is exactly to reduce file size and load/save times.

That was my thinking. Doesnt Vray proxies make the scene load/save faster?

I thought that main benefit of proxies is exactly to reduce file size and load/save times. @Avi, did you even watch the video? It's only 10-20 proxy objects and the difference in saving speed with and without them is night and day. Clearly that can't be expected behaviour, unless lupaz have preview type set to "mesh", which you didn't ask about.

Hi,

The request is logged but no specific timeline can be given at this moment. It is in the group of "nice to have" things, so not with the highest priority.
Currenlty we have the memory report tool (Corona specific) and the idea is to enhance it from report-only tool to something that can be handy to proceed with investigation - e.g. selecting specific objects, maps/materials from it, putting them into a new view or selection set, filtering them in some way so user can investigate them conveniently.

It will be good to get some ideas from users too, how exactly they see (the UX also) of memory report tool. Simply listing objects is just an info, not a tool to get the objects quickly and check them.

We will surely update you in case of news.
And thanks for pinging and reminding about the things you want to see implemented, user activity is an important part in it :)

Agree 1000% here with everything that's been said: I was so happy to finally see a Gamma operator coming with C11HF1, and so disappointed to see it disappearing in HF2.

That's definitely a feature you want back in Corona. It looks like a basic fonctionality that should come by default. In the end I find myself paying for features I don't really need, like Phoenix, and at the same time basic functionalities like Gamma operator are missing ...
I don't think that wanting to protect novice users by restricting those who need more flexibility and usability is a good thing.

In the meantime, is there any other way to alter the gamma of the render except of doing it in a post production software? Any LUT file that would allow that? (I guess no, but just asking to be sure).
