[Max] I need help! / Converting materials from Blender
« on: 2024-05-01, 04:37:07 »
I imported a model that I bought made in Blender into 3Ds Max 2024. I imported the FBX (obj would not work with an error meshName=shapeName when importing OBJ). I used the relink bitmaps script. The materials came into Max, but what the original maker said were alpha maps came in as what seemed to be separate materials laying over the pavement and walls instead of blending onto the walls and pavement.

Any ideas on how to attach these alphas correctly?

I've attached the original image rendered in Blender, the one in Max, after importing bitmaps into the FBX file. And a screenshot of the material layout in Blender (which I am a newbie at)..and one of the alpha files.  The original artist said "Use "alpha " image textures for cutout opacity map". Are there tutorials on this?

It is not too bad assuming that I was sent the increase in AUD dollars.

[Max] I need help! / Re: animating smoke
« on: 2023-12-14, 00:46:06 »
Thank you. When I asked Coroan support "It seemed that the tutorials on the Chaos site “require Vray”. Will Phoenix work in similar ways with Corona?...So what do you recommend for creating a light smoke effect?", the support person answering me said in the case you want to create a smoke effect, I would recommend using Corona Volume Grid.
Here is our tutorial how to work with it:
t=1
Here is the documentation explaining each and every button: https://docs.chaos.com/display/CRMAX/Corona+Volume+Grid

This method needs an animated .vdb file.  ...So the cache method in Phoenix is much easier and it will save as open vdb files in the output section.

Does anyone have anywhere I can find a simple tutorial on animating smoke using Corona and Phoenix? The ones on the Chaos site use Vray

Thanks. These are pretty great. I'm not sure how to apply that mask, but I just created mostly refractive, reflective transparent outer material onto the globe so that the iris shows through... it works. I don't get too close to these animals, so an approximation is OK.

Does Corona use a roughness map and AO maps?

[Max] I need help! / Maps imported from Blender
« on: 2023-12-05, 00:43:43 »
I imported a model from Blender (FBX). I'm trying to reattach the materials. I am having problems with the eyes and jaw. The eyes have a mask. What slot do I put it in? The eyes seem to be made up of a "Sclera", a round globe, and a pupil, a circle with a concave bit.

The body has a roughness map and an AO map. Do I use these? And if so how?

Thanks in advance.

[Max] I need help! / Re: bloom and glare bug?
« on: 2023-11-19, 22:01:31 »
How do I use the "legacy mode"? I just turned off the bloom and glare for this one and re-rendered the lights a region to mask out in Premiere, and it was OK.

[Max] I need help! / bloom and glare bug?
« on: 2023-11-04, 05:35:06 »
I bought a model made in Max 2022. (I'm using version 2023 with the latest Corona build.)  I have been doing a simple animation with the camera moving slightly from left to right with a springbok in the room in 450 frames. The glare on the ceiling lamps changes on some frames to a dull orange. So for instance on frame 255 the glare on the lamps is bright, but on frame 256 the glare is dull and slightly orange. In fact, on some frames, I saw the glare change to a dull orange as it was rendering

I did a few tests using the region rendering on the lamp section (to overlay in Premiere). On one frame, when I turned the bloom and glare on and off a number of times the glare mysteriously went right and was no longer the dull orangy colour. Any ideas on how to fix this bug?

I am not able to use my Corona license. I have the latest version of Corona for 3Ds Max.

Corona stopped working in the middle of a project saying that “all licenses for this product are currently engaged”. I rebooted both my laptop and my PC (the only computers with Corona installed and received the same error message (neither was running Max at the same time).

The license server says Corona Universal is “in use” when it is not even installed (at least it is not on any of my listed apps).

It says: In Use Online Evergreen∞ 192.168.50.120. I checked my IP address. It is 115.189.133.17. Could someone have “stolen” my license?

[Max] I need help! / point cloud
« on: 2023-08-01, 18:52:36 »
I have been doing 3D scans for years, but I just tried using the point cloud in Max. I have seen old threads that Corona has in the past not been able to render them in Max. Does Corona render point clouds in 2023 (using a setting that I can't figure out)? If not, any idea what does?

ahh, I Googled it and finally found this link: https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=11299.0 setup > performance settings and change displacement mode from "screen size" to "world size".

Sorry, I never noticed a reply (no mail received). It looks like you were able to download all the files. Can you explain how to "use the displacement with screen size" and ..."Use world size instead to 'lock' the displacement in place and avoid flicker"? I'm not quite sure what this means (I bought the olive tree file.)

I lowered the noise level limit and raised the precision for the animation, and the rendering (about 30% longer) was much better...acceptable

[Max] I need help! / flickering with HDRI
« on: 2023-06-20, 05:27:58 »
Hi, I am making a new animation that appears to have flickering almost like caustics on the branches (though there is no water in the scene). It is most obvious in the clip on an upper left tree branch.

I'm using a tree, an animation of a dog and a dome HDRI mapping kloppekloppenheim_05_4k form Poly Haven. (I'll try again with a new 24k version). The animation setting is set to default -secondary solver UDH cache/calculate scratch. The denoiser is set to the default.

Any ideas? I set the dome mapping at a high y-axis offset.

Our whole neighborhood is offline for 5 days due to construction. I cannot render because my computer of course will not connect to the corona license. Is there any other option so that I can finish the project? I wrote support, and they told me they would get back to me in a day or two ...so far no answer.
