I'd love to see that script. Thanks for chiming in.

Just rendering bigger and cropping from now on seems like a solid idea though ;)

Hi guys

I'm looking for a solution to 3ds max that works like when you want to resize the Canvas Size in photoshop. Basically adding X amount of pixels to only the top of my image.

If I change the height in render output I will also get "extra" ground that I have to render.

There's this script: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/overscan but it requires you to render twice and comp in PS.

Can it be done without comping, region renders and all sorts of other workarounds? :)

ForestPack: Try to avoid using object exclude areas with high resolution and also if you are using spline exclude/include areas keep those splines with smallest vertex count as possible(use normalize spline modifier for example)...then you will see speed up in transforming vertices pass.

Sadly this isn't something I can apply to my scene as it my exclude splines are indeed very simple (4-10vertices). I'm still pretty sure it's the missing support of "instancing". Very noticeably in this case as I'm doing large building facades with custom tiles and wood cladding.

Since randomizing won't work when enabling instancing, I had a feeling that it had a big impact on why my renders were taking so long to start in "heavy" Railclone scenes.

Just made a quick test to see if the instancing had an effect. (only with a small sample of RC object isolated, but clearly there it is causing extra parsing time). See attached.

In my full scene and at only 1800px (test render) I'm waiting over 1min for it to parse. It's not really a problem for the final render that takes much longer anyway, but for test renders it's a huge pain.

Should have rephrased topic to Railclone only. Forgot edge mode in Forestpack has been working for some time :)

Railclone seems to still have limits when working in Corona (vs vray). Especially with randomization. It simply doesn't work.

It's nice now with the new Corona multimap and the UVW randomizer as I can now do a work around, but it still doesn't work when enabling instancing in Railclone.

See attached for a small example.

Hi guys

I've gone through the boards here and over at iToo's forum.

Can someone clarify what the status is on getting instancing to work with iToo's plugins?

On their boards they say you guys have been in contact, but the ball is currently on the Corona Devs' court. Here on the Corona forum it seems like you think the ball is on the iToo's court?

It's a big time waster not being able to use the instancing mode on RC and FP. Lots of extra tweaks has to be done to get the plugins and presets to work as they as they do with vray.

I don't know if it's related, but I'm also experiencing very large slow downs on render starts in scenes with heavy FP and RC items. "transforming vertices" "parsing scene" takes ages, but once the rendering starts, all is pretty fast.

Rayswitcher material is correct choise, but you need to apply it to your oil tank object, not to ground plane with shadowcatcher material.

Works perfectly for my exact case, thank you romullus!

I have to agree with Juraj that it's not optimal workflow behavior: Having to create custom mats for the every single object casting a shadow, instead of just being able to exclude the GI on the shadowcatcher itself. Never noticed it on my studio renders before as usually the shadowcatcher here will be either very bright or dark. Guess this aerial is a pretty specific usage case for it.

Thanks both of you :)

Hi

I'm do a few aerial views and I'm getting annoying indirect illumination on my shadowcatcher plane. Is there a way to keep this from happening? I kind of managed to do it with the rayswitchmtl, but then I loose the shadow itself too on the shadowcatcher, which just seems silly :)

Tried all possible settings on the shadowcatcher material itself and also on the object seemingly reflecting light on to the plane, but no dice. I must be doing something complete wrong or ?

[Max] I need help! / Re: Corona Image Editor - output gamma?
« on: 2017-06-07, 13:24:29 »
What is the value of override ? If your Gamma value is 2,2 you should select override button and change the value as 2,2 while you are saving the final image. Can u try to change the value please?

But there isn't any "gamma override button" in the standalone Corona Image Editor (CIE) as far as I can see. I guess I could just reload the CXR inside of max, but then it needs to denoise all the lightpasses again. This really should be possible with the CIE.

[Max] I need help! / Corona Image Editor - output gamma?
« on: 2017-06-06, 20:54:33 »
I saved my output from max to CXR (to play with lightmix) and gamma was set to 2.2. Looks great in the Corona Image Editor, but when I save from the editor to .exr I don't get the option to burn in the same gamma. So when I open the .exr file in PS it's way too dark (looking like gamme of 1). I could just tweak it in PS, but I'm importing several layers and it's just a pain when everything was looking fine in CIE.

I'm probably doing something wrong, please enlighten me :)

Hi

I saw someone in the 1.7 daily with the same issue, but it wasn't reported here.

When I render on my workstation + enable the DR and the render finishes, Corona starts the "cleaning up" message. This process never stops. It keeps on running. I am however able to continue to use 3ds max, save my output and everything else (didn't try to rerender though).

When I quit max (2016 sp4) it gave the attached pop up.

Will this toolbar still work for 1.6 corona?

Seems like it. Haven't experienced anything differently with the toolbar in 1.6 (granted I haven't tried all the buttons after updating, but has been working fine under every daily update).

I guess it would make more sense to create CoronaCamera (and deprecate the modifier), since reliance on Autodesk to do the camera right hasn't paid off.

+1 This would be great!

RC9 (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php/topic,13400.msg100087.html#msg100087) has few more DR bugfixes. It would be awesome if you could test it and tell us if it fixes your problems. Thanks!

Love the speed of these Ryuu, think it's great you are realeasing smaller RCs faster instead of few and big ones. Could you give a little more insight to the usage of: "Added threshold to number of samples adaptivity can distribute to each pixel (to avoid slow progress in rendered passes)"?

You could try Rail Clone, they have a tutorial just for a case like this here:https://www.itoosoft.com/tutorials/stadium4

Else I'd try and find actual photo's from football matches with heavy crowds and use good old photoshop. I guess it depends on your view.
