Even from thumbnail I knew this would very overdone for the usual Christmas image :- ) but the theme is really great and very poignant for this year.

Still super creepy.. but amazing effort! You have such broad skillset and versatility, I wish I could do that. Very impressive.

I built my computer yesterday!
Corona Benchmark: 00:00:36!!!

Yes I had the same results, but now that I have built my pc, I don't care much about benchmarks. I am so happy with the interactive rendering speed and the final render time
For GPU I went with RTX 3090 24gb

As should be :- ) Congrats to nice PC build !

[Max] General Discussion / Re: Corona Bump is so broken
« on: 2022-12-12, 13:57:14 »
Yeah microdetail is always problematic. Reduce filtering in either map (native or Corona, or bumpconverter node) and you get possible artifacts. Don't, and your detail is very much angle and resolution dependent. I don't like any filtering (I don't do animations though) but Bump/Normal can stop functioning without filtering. I've also been interested in Vray's elliptical filtering mode.

A solution that worked for me is to render quite high-res. You don't need to multiply your render-time in order to do so, down-sampling of noisier high-res files to lower resolution clears some of that noise. Also, denoised high-res file for most part looks better then undenoised lower-res file.

Possible solution for accurate detail vs animation smoothness is to use Devel/Debug menu override between these modes. There is no filtering option which can be default for stills.

I also don't use native max noise in bump, or much at all. I rather triplanar noise bitmap for more consistent result across resolution. The F-Storm is using its own noise map for good reason.

There is now (since late 2021) alternative solution because of

it's small tool that superimposes color-profile on non-color managed application. It's not perfect but it's something.

But color-management is still needed on Autodesk & Corona side. I've heard rumor of something next year

I feel I can reproduce following bug, or at least I was able to in succession for few times inside production scene, might try today in isolated one but perhaps some QA have bit time to see as well:

1) Put VrScan inside LayeredMaterial (I am using car paint with clear-coat checked on)
2) Put another material on top
3) Start playing with the layered by either:
    A) put mask to the new material
    B) Click on preview during IR of the layered material

I made this crash both outside of IR (just general working) but mainly during IR.

Generally experience quite bit of crashes right now, but then again I am playing with big features like Scans which might be sensitive in IR in combination with other stuff.

Could the AI denoisers get confused perhaps by the new bucket-style rendering Corona is doing nowadays?

This has been moving fast :- ) ! Most features were already implemented, very happy and of course thank you !
I updated new some :- )

NEW 1: Glossiness mapping for Clear-Coat. The clear-coat seems like generic one from Physical Material, so it would be cool to get mapping as well, so I can add dirt to car paints directly within.

Hardware / Re: 5950x, 7950x or 12900K for an upgrade?

Used 3090s will be killer deals for 3D artists. I wish I could find FE edition here, I love the design,  but they were never really available in continental Europe outside of Germany mainly so they're not on used market either.

Plenty of other AIBs for around 750-800 Euro though mirroring your UK pricing.

Unless one can source 4xxx at actual mrsp, they're just pissing away money.

It doesn't matter too much how expensive memory you will buy because DDR5 on current cpus will struggle to maintain high clocks in 64 & 128GB configuration (due to amount of ranks putting stress on IO).
5200 might even be the most stable you will be able to reach.

All those 6000+ Kits are for 8/16/32GB in maximum of two modules. The increased latency will not be felt in Corona rendering at all.

The 13900K is indeed single-threaded king, but 7950x remains the overall-performance king. Really no bad choice to make.

Very good CPU progress this generation.

This graph is also good reminder, do install Windows 11 with them.

I recommend one or the other :- )  Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 or 420 is my personal AIO recommendation, and NH-D15 is my personal Air recommendation.

Very cool! Is it just me or does it look like it affects smoothing groups? Looks like it smoothes the overall surface despite your projection plane being flat?
