Hello,

I try to render perforated panels in my scene but displace go crazy. (see the attached picture)

First problem, it looks strang... why?
Second problem, when i render a 4000*2500 picture, it says "bad allocation". I have only 40m² of perforated panels!

My model come from sketchup. I do the displace with the displace modifier .
My build of corona is :

Corona version: 1.2.1

Do you have any idea of what can i do?
Is it better to do displace with the material setting? modifier?
I saw in your tutorial that you have a subdive option in the displace section but i can't find this option... i'm lost!!

Sorry for my english.
Best regards,

I personally never used displacement doing ceiling perforations. Attached are crops from 5k images using opacity/cutout maps only (works for most renderers, these are corona):
  • create your base ceiling with just a material without opacity map
  • copy that ceiling (do them as instances) three to five times with a distance of about 1 to 2 mm as a plane (depending on what depth you want to achieve)
  • use your perforation pattern on those copies as opacity/cutout map

With this method you fake performation depth and don´t worry - it does work for high resolutions.

Good Luck!

Never underestimate the power of a well placed level one spell.
