I follow this forum extensively for a long time, but I have not yet posted my experiences.
I know my level is below the others, but I hope not too much bother  :-)

Your renders are a bit underexposed and they lack contrast. Try experimenting with post processing tab in Corona or do a little tuning in ps.

try set image filter '1', more resolution and let corona do more render pass for getting more clear result

and portals is a very good idea for speed up

I use Corona because it is extremely fast and do not have time at the office for lengthy rendering. Each image was set for 30 minutes with i7 930. Probably need a minimum of 2 hours for each.
