Working with Include/Exclude lists can be super slow with large scenes. There were some improvement (like the '+' button) but it's not proving useful the way it's implemented, at least not for Render Elements. Here are some suggestions:

- The '+' button, when activated, waits for the user to pick an object. This is unfortunately useless when you want to add 100 objects at the same time. It should be the other way around: first you select the objects, then press the button and it adds the selection to the list.
- Add a '-' button to remove current selection from the list. Button behavior should be the same as above, select > press button > objects get removed from the list.
- Add an 'X' button to clear the list. Currently there's no way to clear with a single action without opening the List, selecting all objects and removing them, this should really be improved.
- Please add an indication (either a color on the 'List...' button or as a tooltip) so it's clear whether the list is empty or not. Currently you have to open the List to check.

An addition to the above request:

- please add a 'Select Objects in List' option. (I have setup some RGB ID passes in an older scene and it turns out to be impossible to find out which objects are within a selection set in a simple way. With bigger scenes it's pretty difficult to go through several lists containing hundreds of objects and recognize what's what.)

Thanks!

Bumping the thread so it's in sight for 1.4 if there's any chance of adding this. Thank you.

I still wish this request gets some attention. When setting up masks with many scene objects the current workflow with the lists proves to be more convoluted than it needs to be. Please!

we are now focusing on big things (denoising, VFB), because they will require the most debugging and iterations. Later before the release we will go through the smaller features

This is more of a bug/inconsistency rather than design. For example in material override in render settings, it works the way it should. On some places, |+| adds selected objects into the list, while on others, it initiates picking session. It just needs to be unified so that it adds current selection to the list on every place where |+| button is present.

Thanks for pointing that out, I remember being confused about this because I thought it worked at some point.
I'd still like to have the other requests added, not only the inconsistency fixed. Both the[-] and the
  • buttons would save a lot of time.

*Bump*
I still consider an 'X' button for clearing the list as a very useful feature. If you have lots of objects in your scene, opening the list only to remove objects takes too much time, a simple button would be really nice to have. Any chance to see this in 1.5?
