To really make the volumetric rendering features usable I am missing some kind of volumetric gizmo with falloff (maybe a special corona volumetric object).
...or any other way to get the volumetrics out of the objects boundary.

To keep it simple maybe it would be enough to bind the volume material to a max standard gizmo with falloff.

You can apply the volumetric material to a sphere, or any other object. And you can control falloff with absorption (you can even map it with falloff map and make it custom-shaped).
