Hi Guys,
I'm still having massive DR problems, Ive worked with Vray now for 15 years and i know DR should work like Vray but for some reason Corona Dr doesn't see the stored and mapped textures ..
In Vray i can pull any texture, IES or HDRI from my network drives and vray DR machines find them no problem  ... i do the same with Corona and Corona DR doesn't find them? the only way to fix this is to open Max on the DR machine and Map the locations through Configure user paths ! ... then it works ... but this in its self is ridiculous as i have 10 Dr Nodes and i don't want to map them every time my 10 staff start a new job!

Why doesn't Corana know where these file are when they are mapped correctly on the workstation and all drives are shared correctly on all slaves?

i have 200 Dr machines that i really would love to use with Corana but at present i cant use Corona as a commercial renderer over vray because of this issue.

Please fix this damn DR issue i really need this work guys.

Hi,

unfortunately Corona does not have nearly as sophisticated DR as Vray at this point in time. Improvements are planned of course, but these things are really hard to polish, because 90% of the problems with DR users have are either connected to 3ds Max, or network setup. Vray has already advanced mechanisms to work around them, like for example recently introduced automatic distribution of maps, where if there are some maps missing on slaves, Vray will send them from workstation on it's own.

Currently, most reliable way to use DR with Corona is to have all the shared assets, like texture, references, etc... on one remote drive that is accessible under same drive letter from all the machines. This requires high speed LAN connection though.

Basically you have all the assets scene uses stored on a network drive labeled Z: for example. So path from workstation to the file is for example Z:\Assets\Textures\Wood\Old\OldWoodPlanks_L_01.jpg

All the slave machines have then same network drive mapped as same letter. So once scene is transferred to slaves, they have exact same path to the texture - Z:\Assets\Textures\Wood\Old\OldWoodPlanks_L_01.jpg

If you already use this setup, and still have these problems, then the bug will be a lot harder to chase, because 3ds Max has many weird ways it works with paths. I would especially avoid the whole UNC thing.

why would you suggest not to use UNC?

So basically Dr doesn't work in a real world studio with many user and thousands of GIGs of texture maps IES files and Hdri's  ... you cant map all these in Configure user paths, its impossible.

My network is very simple, I have a Large Qnap File server, i have 10 guys connected to that and then i have 200 DR machines also connected to the Qnap.

All drive are mapped like this d (\\Main01) (D) and that is the same on all machines i have one drive for textures, one drive for models and one drive for Jobs.

Yes Dr does work if you dump everything in one folder and map it .. for every single job.  on every single machine through configure user paths again  ...

As we all know configure user paths has its limits and wont let you keep adding paths ect  ..

To be honest im quite disappointed in the fact we cannot use Corona reliably on our Network without a lot of mucking around.

This is not very professional solution, but some users also reported that using 3rd party tools/scripts like this one helped with some of DR problems:

your Ticket system doesn't seem to work.
Can you explain? I just checked and it seems to work fine, I am able to submit a ticket.

Actually what i meant is that if everything is correctly mapped, you do not need to ever manually configure any paths at all. The studio i worked in for three years had this setup and there was not once any problem with DR.

BTW do you do animations or still frames?

Lastly, it seems you are using UNC paths. That could be the problem.

Hi Guys,

Rendertime I am having exactly the same issues as you, I have managed to get it up and running without having to remap once or twice but then it will fall over again and I start to get the dreaded black stripes across the render once the slaves kick in. I absolutely love this render engine but at present its proving to frustrating to use in production on every project with these DR issues. I have literally lost days trying to get to the bottom of these issues. I have also bought new equipment to run Corona and at the movement I cant use it !.

I hope someone can find a fix asap.

we will probably focus more on DR (dedicated programmer) during the summer. Until then we recommend using backburner in stripes mode. We know about several people using this in situations where they had problems with Corona's own DR

Well i have found a solution for MY problems (disapearing textures on slaves and brighter than master)
-I go to the asset tracking list, then select all the files listed on
-Click on "resolve path to UNC location"
-then click on "make path relative to project folder"

This way i have been able to work with 3 slaves with no problems (Re-check the firewall settings, and under ADVANCED settings disable it, if you disable it only on the basic one it give me problems)
