My system has 32 gigs of ram, windows 7 pro. Running Max 2014X64.

Is it normal for Corona/Max to crash when rendering 35 lights through fog? I don't mind long render times.. but a hard crash is no good.

Is there any way to get around this issue? Renders fine when the fog is turned off.. but that ruins the look I need.

thx

It would help a lot if you could provide a crashing scene for investigation.

Hello,

Checked with 50 lights (corona lights/corona light mtl), fog as global mtl (corona mtl/ corona volume mtl) and box objects with the lights inside (corona mtl/ corona volume mtl). No crashes here. When 3ds Max crashes, if it's possible, could you perform the actions listed under point 1 or 2 (depending on the kind of crash) :

So I came into work this morning and re-rendered the scene on my work system (which is older and runs on 12gb) and it's been perfect so far.

No crashes despite adding many more lights. Weird.

Tonight I'll try and hone in on exactly where things are going wrong and upload the file.

thx

Well.. hmm.. came home tonight, reactivated my license.. and now everything is working fine...  Oh well.. can't explain this, but I guess it fixed itself. I doubt the license had anything to do with it, but that's the only thing that had changed since yesterday.

Oh FYI, not a huge deal or anything, but I did run into a weird thing where the license window was not showing the "cancel" and "next" buttons, which really tripped me up for about 20 minutes since I wasn't sure what the hell was going on.

Turns out I had the text size set to 150% under the Control Panel\Appearance and Personalization\Display window and it had totally clipped the bottom buttons! I'm running a 34" monitor and wanted the larger text to reduce eye strain. The other interface elements seemed normal and I had no indications that something was wrong.  Crisis averted!

The global fog/volume material is just essential now for what I'm doing. Just makes everything look more epic! So glad you guys added it.

This seems resolved. In case you still experience any crashes, please feel free to create new report. Also, attaching scene with reproducible crash will make resolving of the crash/bug lot faster and easier.

Archiving to resolved.
