This is something similar to override preserving displacement. Could there be a check mark to also "preserve" i.e. completely disregard CoronaLightMtl?
This could be useful when testing scene and lighting with objects that have LightMtl assigned. Maybe even have it checked by default, so that there is no confusion when Mtl. override is turned on and the scene suddenly goes black.

Given enough thought, one could come up with reasons to add exclude switch for almost everything. Refraction in materials, opacity, bump, etc... Preserve displacement checkbox being added doesn't mean there will be now preserve checkbox for everything. Preserve displacement is there to keep potential render passes consistent with main pass. So for anything else, just please use include/exclude feature. It's very easy to select all your lightMTL objects using select by material feature, and then clicking that little + button to add them to exclude list.
