3D Animation - Long Render Time Per Frame and Noise

Hi People,

Just trialing doing the first commercial animation with corona but I'm struggling with the render time per frame and the noise. The animation needs to be full HD at 1920x1080 and after 45mins of rendering one frame there is still a lot of noise. Using Corona Alpha 6.

My settings are the following:

Corona Sky and Sun
PT + HD
GI/AA:64
Light Samples Multiplier: 2
Max Sample Intensity: 20
Max Ray Depth: 25

Any input would be great as it's doing my head in! I've read through everything on the forum with no real conclusion to the best settings to be using. I understand every scene is different but this is just a simple interior scene with a moving camera.

It would be easier if you showed us some pictures or at least described what the scene looks like (windows? lights? materials?). Maybe you will find some useful info in the support system:

Bitmap paging is disabled.

Are you using Portals for the windows?

Yes and they are the exact size of the windows and placed outside of the window. I've tried with and without the portals and there is no real difference in render time or noise :(

If i read your screenshot right, it takes half an hour for 5 passes to render. This seems quite strange to me.
And as already metioned, your rays per scond are very low. have you already tried the things that are mentioned
here? :

Thanks for your reply - I have had a look through the link and I can't see anything that is causing the problems from the mentioned list. There is a large garden in the background but this is just made up of forest pro scattering and proxies - no meshes.

Apply a materialoverride and exclude the windows (or simply hide them). And add every material one by one to close in the messy one.
(if is not ligth ies related)
Also some image formats are known to cause slowdowns, not even start talking about opacity leaves.
It seems all your interior are lit by exterior bouncing over those. If you have very bright leaves material with some high ior (plus opacity) there is a big chance you will end up casting a nasty ray on your interior. ALSO noticed there are a lot firelfies on the cristal chadeliers.

On a general note; should leaves, plants etc not use opacity maps then?

Opacity leaves uses a slow 3dsmax texture evaluation that slow things down. So if you must use other than geometry, care should be taken to avoid the negative impact of using it.
There is several threads in forums discussing that. Search for "alpha opacity".

i would also do a test rendering without the garden and another without the chandeliers, just to find out what is causing the problems.
