Try to follow these steps:

(*) Create a plane (ground) and one sphere.
(*) Create CScatter and try to scatter 200 sphere on the plane.
(*) Use a Cellular as a density map for CScatter.
(*) Drag&Drop as ISTANCE the Cellular in an empty slot in the MEdit
(*) Ok, we don't like Cellular and I prefer, for example, Splat. Click the "Cellular" button on the MEdit (right side of MEdit)
(*) Select Splat (Discard old map)
(*) 3ds max freeze.

I had a problem with coronascatter and a coronaproxy, DB 2014-12-21. Coronaproxy was OK.

Your version isn't the last version.
Also, this discussion is about CScatter and density map.
Please, open a new discussion with your bug, better if with the scene .max.

You are scattering planes on a tree. I don't see any bug here. Check in which fields you are adding the objects.
Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.
