Can't test it, because i don't have 3ds max at the moment, but what if you'd use rayswitcher material? Normal glass into direct slot, thin glass everywhere else. Would that solve your issue?

sorry for necro post, but I just run into the same problem (this is especially visible on a window to which we are almost paralell with - so in case someone needs to sort it out, the only way to do this is to set IOR to 1.0

the only solution then is set ior to 1? the beauty pass in this way would have an unrealistic glass
in all this time was another solution found?
