It wouldn't hurt to have ability to assign map to self illumination multiplier.
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

this is not necessary - you can add the map to color (if there is another map, just multiply them).

IMHO it would just create more bloat in the UI with no positive effect

Yup, use RGB Multiply node, Intensity map in one slot, color map in the other :)

Now that's how wack things can get in max. It's technically the right solution but it surely means more clicks, and, instead of having it clearly visible in the material's main UI, it's hidden in a nested submap.

That's why I'd prefer a mappable multiplier slot, it's just more elegant *shrug*
