Hi all,

I'm using Max 2021 and just upgraded to Corona 12 from Corona 10 and the converter has stopped converting VRayMtls. Worked fine in Corona 10.

Attached is the 3DS maxscript error window.

I've opened up a new scene in max 2021, imported a boat with vray materials from an Evermotion pack with all maps relinked and present, opened up the converter, hit convert and bam. Not much use providing the scene but will do if needed. Happens with any model using vray materials. I have V-ray 5.00.4 installed, converter had no issues before. Any ideas I can try without having to reset my ENU folder to default settings?

Edit: FWIW, I backed up my ENU folder, started a new max, repeated all the above and bug/error still persists.

Thank you!

Hi,
the same thing happens to me. The converter does not replace Vray materials.
Some Vray materials don't render either, although they looked ok in Corona render 11. I had to go back to earlier version.
Max 2018

Best regards

Update on the issue: I downloaded a trial version of V-ray 6.2. and the corona converter now works.... Is it possible at all to have it working without the need for the latest V-ray version?

Hi, thanks for sharing the solution. It is always a good idea to install the version of V-Ray "corresponding" to the version of Corona.
Other than that, the solution to this issue which we have been aware of so far is increasing the maxscript heap size: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/articles/4528127520017

Hi maru, thanks for the reply and recommendation, it's a bit unfortunate always having to update V-ray as well, especially with more workstations.

On the solution note, one of the first things I found was the article you linked and I've tried increasing the heap size (though it was already at 256mb, I doubled it)  but the issue persisted.

Hi, can you please contact us about this here: https://support.chaos.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
Currently, we don't know what exactly the "issue" is, so we cannot fix it. Perhaps something you could try is running the converter script from an older version of Corona. You can use the unpack option in the installer, locate the script (\Chaos Corona\Corona\Corona Renderer for 3ds Max\2024\Scripts), and drag-and-drop it into 3ds Max.
