Hello! I'm posting to this forum looking for some help with what i believe is an easy-to-fix issue. I am very new to 3dsmax + corona, so i apologize if it's a stupid question.

I'm doing some test renders with some architectural 3d sketches, and i'm noticing the hard shadows (in covered places where the sun doesnt hit directly) are way too dark, almost pitch black, as if ambient light wasn't properly bouncing around the scene.

This particular scene is being lit with a single HDRI map with the output cranked up to 9, and nothing else. How can I lighten the shadows?

Thank you

Hi,

It's probably because there is no ground to bounce the light and illuminate the underside of the slab.
Model a ground plane, apply a material with decent reflection on, and the problem will be solved.

Hi @narroby

as Tom suggests in the previous reply - create a "ground" under the building and you will notice much better shadows :)
