Hi All,

I am very new to this forum, Corona and 3Ds Max so please bear with me!

I was hoping I might be able to get some help with a tile material. I am trying to replicate a specific tile (see attachment: Tile_Goal) but am currently achieving these results (att: Tile_Outcome).

The main thing I hoped to do was create a colour change around the border of the tiles to show it darker around the edges with a gradual transition in colour to the center - but am struggling. I tried to achieve this with an AO map (I'm not sure if that's right) and I am happy with how it looks in the material preview (att: speckle setup) but then when I apply it to my model it's not aligning with the tile shape (att: Shaded View_AO Error).

Any help would be amazing in either this area or any other suggestions you have to make the material look more realistic and like the intended image.

Thanks!

Hi,

The effect - color gradation - actually comes from the shape of the tiles if you look closely, they are concave. This can be achieved both with Bump and with displacement.
You will need to tile a gradient for the "Tiles" tile. AO will not help here, as it is edge and geometry based thing.

You can find a the scene attached. A constant color is used for the tiles, the effect is achieved with bump.
You can of course go further and do other color gradation for the actual tile color, grout etc.

You can model few simple tiles (basically beveled boxes) and make Corona Pattern out of them. That would open even more possibilities in realistically texturing and randomizing them in your scene.

Thank you both for your help! This has definitely improved things and I am starting to get the hang of the pattern mod. I have started a new post about a hurdle I have encountered but I just wanted to say thank you for taking the time to help me out :)
