Hi,

As a total beginner of 3ds max and corona renderer i came across many problems already but most of them have been solved by google'ing and trying things out myself.
However, today i had these weird red pixels/glow on my render and i just don't know how to fix it.
I modelled in revit, exported to fbx and linked it in 3ds max.
Thanks in advance for all help!

Somwhere in your scene there is unuspported material. You can try to find it manually, or use Corona converter and convert all materials to CoronaMtl.

Sometimes it's just that simple. Thanks!

You're welcome! By the way, you're probably using outdated Corona version, in V5 and newer versions, unsupported materials shouldn't glow in toxic red anymore. You should upgrade if you can.

Will update this weekend!

New problem, big big problem...

My 3ds max file was 3.85GB and i couldn't do anything anymore. A simple move object would freeze the system, trying to re-save it freezed it, basicly a simple click caused 3ds max to freeze. Google'd and tried the gc script, enabled compess on save and got it back to 1.06GB but the problems are still there. I always just re-save any progression so don't have an older file to restart from.

Hi. Compress on save, only saves disk space, but doesn't change anything when opened in max.

I would split the file up in parts, and then x-ref them. One way to do this is to create new empty files, and then merge different chunks of object into them.

If you can open the original file, then it's possible to do it another way, by selecting objects and then turn them into x-refs.

Hope it helps

I also suggest to install and run some scene cleaning scripts, like sini forensic, or prune scene. Sometimes 3ds max accumulates incredible ammounts of garbage in the scenes and that can cause slow downs and inflated files sizes.

Thanks for the advice, will look into that tomorrow and share results.
Is this a common problem for 3ds max? I mean i only added a couple things and did only real beginner stuff and my file is already full of nonsense.
Can't even imagine what it would be for someone doing this professional or is this less of a problem when only using payed products.
Currently running on a 16GB ram, i7 6700HQ and 1060 6GB computer, should be good enough for now right?

I work with 3ds max for more than 15 years and i could count situations with bloated files due to the garbage on one hand, so i don't think it's very common issue. On the other hand, if you download a lot of assets from sites with questionable reputation, then who knows what nasty stuff can come with them.

As for your pc specs, i'm working on very similar machine, except that my cpu is even older - i still find it enough for my needs, but then again, i don't do archviz and my needs for pc power are below average.

Hi. 16Gb of RAM isn't much when working with files that big - unless of course the size is caused by a bloated file. But if it'll render it should work - slow, but working.

I ran forensic and cleaned/repaired all things i possibly could but file size is still the same. Going to look into PROH suggestion now.

Turned some planting into xrefs and the file is 550mb now and i'm able to work on it without massive freezes. Guess working with xrefs is something i need to get used to. Thanks! Now i only need to find a way to make the sky of the hdri look more blue without changing anything else and i think i'm done with this project for now. Will post the result for those of you that want to give me some helpful feedback.

This is my first attempt at a render with 3ds max.
I'm satisfied with the basics of the scene; camera, scenery and basic colors.
Ofcourse there's lots of room for improvement so please share your opinions with me to help me do better next time.
I used corona renderer for the materials, forrest pack lite for the tree and grass, downloaded the pink plants and thing next to the front door (also used that to make the 3 small trees in front) and a car.

Things i defnitely would like to change next time are;
-grass boundaries; especially on the right side of the driveway it looks weird.
-try to make the car look more realistic by adding a number plate and changing some materials to make it look less plain.
-glass; there's some weird triangles on the upstairs windows.
-adding some interior behind the glass.
-depending on the scene adding artificial lighting.

Thanks again for all help. Really glad i found this forum!

Hi. Nice starting point :)

Regarding the glass with triangles, there's a couple of things to check:
- are there double faces in the glass?
- are they properly welded?
- do the faces have different smoothing groups?

Another tiny thing: what's happening with the vertical bricks? Looks like the bump map is horizontal. Maybe that's intended?
