On page 4 of your custom metal pdf preview, you suggest to use the curvature shader as a layer mask.
I would really like to do that in c4d, but there is none, or do I miss something?

in the vray for c4d engine we use a curvature mask. vray can do that in c4d via the vray curvature shader.

in the corona c4d engine as it has no curvature shader(yet) we use the corona AO, you can get
a similar result with it. (but more easy would be via curvature)

both work, but ideally corona c4d hopefully gets a curvature shader in v6, pls also suggest that to the corona team, i alerady did:)

Hi Stefan,

Coming from you guy's I know these will be very high quality materials! I just wanted to ask if you rendered the previews in the PDF's in Corona or Vray? Only I find corona has difficulties with very tiny surface bump textures like the ones you find on brushed metal. I don't use Vray any more so would love to know these work well in Corona.

Many thanks,
Roger

p.s. Love the picture of you behind that big desk! You look like you're about to fire somebody :-)

Hi the previews are rendered with BOTH, with corona and vray.
all corona materials are natively made in corona and rendered there:)

so the render previews inside are rendered with corona v5 sp2 for ALL corona mats,
(and with vray for all vray mats).

the corona mats render 1:1 with v5 sp2 as they are in the folder, they are what comes out from our corona render, no post production used.
for seeing the fine brushes see to have a nice fitting light of course.

A quick tip for anyone who buy's this material pack (and you should, it's excellent):
If you find that when you copy one of the materials to your own scene, the image maps don't come with it, or, if you drag them to the browser and they look dull instead of shiny, here's the fix:

Note this is nothing wrong with the pack at all, it's the same for any materials and it's how you have set up C4D.

- Assuming you have all the metal materials in a folder on your drive somewhere, that you unzipped when you bought it, do a quick search in the enclosing folder to find all the 'tex' folders.

- Now open C4D 'preferences > files > paths ' and drag all the 'tex' folders you just found to the files dialog (see my grab). It is possible to just add the enclosing folder to paths, but I find that having all the extra files to search through slows the browser down a bit.

- Quit and re-open C4D and now everything will work perfectly.

Also, if you want to drag them all to the browser for easy finding later, open all the provided material scenes, then (and this is important!) hold down alt/opt as you drag the materials to the browser. This ensures that the associated texture maps stay in their original places and don't get copied to the lib folder and make it massive (there are GB's of them). See other grab.

hope that helps!

Cheers

Hi Stefan,

these materials are absolutely great, as expected coming from you!
But if I could make a suggestion, if it could be added as an update, I would prefer one (or several) .lib4d file(s) for content browser, like Sirio (3DRnB) did for his fabric shaders library, which inserts the materials nicely together with all the layered materials in a seperate layer, without importing the actual scene, and also with efficient/recognizable material naming...

It would make it a bit user-friendly IMHO
