I have been out of the loop on Corona for a couple months but getting back into it this week. Noticed today after getting the latest version that I cannot use the flares anymore because when I try to save it freezes. I google this issue and saw it was something that was a problem a long time ago, looks like its back?

I have the latest Corona 5 download from the dropbox folder. Tested various situations and its 100% caused by using the flares.

What's best in a freeze is to send in the minidump (assuming you are using 3ds Max?) A sample scene would be good too. Plus what software since I had to assume Max, what version of the host software, what OS, what version of the OS. See https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/5000524006-how-to-report-issues-3ds-max (or https://help.c4d.corona-renderer.com/support/solutions/articles/12000033461-how-to-report-issues-c4d, depending) - that has links to the private uploader, a description of what kind of info we need, and how to get a minidump from a frozen rather than crashed Max.

We'd also need to know your workflow - are you saving from the VFB? From the CIE? From Max in some other way? And to what format?

Thanks!

Sounds good.

As of right now I did a super simple test to confirm it was the flares.

I had a brand new window in max. I changed renderer to corona. I created a sphere light. I rendered sphere light without changing any settings except for enabling bloom/glare. Once I stopped render i clicked save from the vfb as a .exr. And wala, freeze.

I did however render another shot on my other computer and it was just fine. So I will look into this more tonight and see what it can be.
Odd thing is, I rendered an image earlier on the same machine that is now freezing just fine. Maybe a restart will fix.

Thanks Tom!

Hi,

Bloom and glare can take some time to compute, especially at high resolutions. So if you hit save while bloom and glare is still calculating it can seem like Max has frozen. In my tests after some time, Max will recover and the file will be saved out correctly.

A good workaround for this is to save the file as a cxr with bloom and glare disabled, then load the cxr into Corona Image Editor and apply bloom and glare there.

It's interesting that this only happens on one of your machines, can you tell me the specifications of your computers?

Thanks,

Rowan
