Hi everyone,

Recently our team has noticed that the Alpha pass has stopped automatically saving along with the other render elements like it used to, we now have to save it manually each time, is this a bug or has something changed that we aren't aware of?

Thanks in advance,
Matt

If you open the just the main render in PS, it should be in the channels panel?

Hi Matt can you please explain further what's your issue?

cshading_alpha saves normally with output on my end (Corona v5), also with png, tiff, exr, cxr(vfb) with/without the element being added, as long as the output save settings are set correctly to include alpha information.

Hi,

Thanks for your replies, sorry for not making it clearer what the issue was. Previously before the error began we wouldn't have to set up an alpha element as it would appear automatically in the frame buffer when rendering (this is still the case.) However what has changed is when the render has finished and it is set to save all of the elements from the frame buffer it will save a .tif (just the format we use) for every element except the alpha pass, which it did used to do. When I hit save all from the frame buffer it also will not make an alpha.tif.

Thank you for pointing out it now loads into the channels, I guess this is more of a bug report as some previous functionality seems to have stopped working.

Hi,
Are you sure that before Corona was saving automatically created alpha pass? For me it never was the case, only explicitly created alpha pass was saved with "save all". Could you specify in which version Corona would save automatically created alpha pass, so someone could test it and confirm?
I'm not Corona Team member. Everything i say, is my personal opinion only.

Hi Romullus,

I am certain it was creating it automatically as I had never had to save it manually or make an alpha element in render settings since we switched over to corona. I am not sure if it came with the update to Corona 5 but it possibly could have been since then. It is only something we have noticed as a team in the last 2-3 weeks. I know it isn't the biggest issue its just our work flow is with linked elements in photoshop and now we have to manually override the alpha. Thank you for your help.

Hi again Matt.

From which version did you upgrade? I am guessing you are referring to the alpha-split method that exists in .tga not .tiff, tiff has only the option to store the alpha channel for the 16bit  and lower options within the beauty export. The save all function without having the alpha_element and saving as .tiff doesn't save the alpha channel separately even with v3, v4 of Corona. Earlier versions I don't recall I am afraid but I will test if that's the case.

We started out with 4. something (in August of this year so whatever was the latest version then.) I am not sure then what has changed, all I know is now we have to manually save the alpha pass from the frame buffer. As I said its not a big deal, I was wondering if there was something that had been changed that we needed to fiddle with but if its not meant to happen then it's not hard to work around. Thanks for all your help.
