Hello there!

My first post here and my first render tests with Corona.
I really enjoy this render! Lighting and materials are outstanding. My best regards to developer! You`re the man! )

I did some renders on different subjects to see how it works on differents scenes.
Jungle scene - 1500x845 wide, 2.3 h of render time on i7 (2.6 Gh)
Some berry closeup - 2K render took about 3 hours.
Interior scene. I tried to do day/night shots. Day shot 2K size took 2.5 hours. Night shot 1500x958 took about 4 hours.
In addition i tried to render small jungle animation. 10 min per frame limitation. I tried to render 30 min per frame, but terrible noise is still there and even if you put 1 hour it didn`t kill all the noise. And this is just 1K size.

My small hamble conclusion.
I didn`t manage to get clean noise free animation with Corona. So in my opinion it`s not suitable for production animation so far (unless you have 10000 machines in renderfarm)). I can`t imagine how long will take noise-free render of my jungles in 2K.
For still images Corona works the best! But if you have some low lit scene like night shots, it will take a lot more time to get rid of the noise. My night kitchen shot took 4 hours! and take a look at amount of noise and some bad AA stepping around hot areas of light sources.

Again, this is my first tests, all done by default settings. Maybe there is a way to avoid all those problems, will gladly learn them, if you have some advices!

Hi,

nice renders - would you mind sharing your leaf/vegetation material setup or at least post a material build strategy? Thank you !

did you try increasing PT samples to 32 and possibly increasing light samples to 4.

also in HD cache in crease PT sample to 512 or 1024.

Thanks a lot! Here is the banana palm material. I use texture in transl slot here, but for most of the leaves i just use green color without any maps. Other settings are similar.

Yes, because you are increasing PT samples, that means better secondary sampling, but worse AA sampling. And worse AA sampling means flickering fine reflections, like in your jungle scene, and noisy DoF, like in your burger scene ;)

Thanks a lot, guys!

Here another test. Looks like Corona Z map is not fully correct in my opinion (like Vray Z as well), like it has premulted edges, if i`m not mistaken. I did DOF in Nuke using Corona Z and default 3DMax Z map. Edges are pretty different in quality, as you see.

Well, i call it "default", but maybe it`s not )) when you save your render in EXR, you can add Z Depth in G-Buffer channels in popup dialog. Unfortunately you can`t put distance there, 3dMax take into account all the objects in scene and create depth on it`s own. Bu it unpremultiplied so the edges looks more clean on post.

Here is more wide shot as test

Do you need Ps extended to use the exr? becouse when i save an image on exr it  turns withe with some splotches of color, and the layers are not there.

I don`t think it`s Ps issue. Got Ps, still can`t save to exr from Corona normally.

It got nothing to do with Photoshop, guys. Well, i don`t see why you have problems saving EXR from corona. My only guess is you save it in 2.2 gamma, that`s why you get "over-brighten" white images. Save EXR only in gamma 1. I hope it will help you ))
