It really irritates me that real world map coordinates on the sme material ball doesnt show properly as if the ball is either huge or tiny. I can never see any texture detail on it at all.
Is there a fix or something im not doing correctly?

First you have to switch to compact material editor momentarily. Right click on any material then go to 'Options' then change the 'render sample size' to whatever is appropriate for you. Then switch back to SME and update your material previews. It should reflect the change you made in the compact material editor. Im not aware of a way to do this from the slate editor.

Be aware that this affects all previews globally, there is no way to adjust this on a per scene/material basis... As far as I'm aware anyways.
