In V-Ray for Sketchup, there was a tool call a mesh clipper where you could create a closed geometry and set it to either exclude all geometry inside or outside of it. It worked well with scattered geometry because you could easily create hard edges to the scattered geometry w/o having to use scale or density. Is there something similar in 3dsMax that could achieve the same result? The purpose would be to use it for planter boxes to keep any leaves or blades of grass from poking through...similar to the image below.

No clipper tool at the moment, sorry.

You might be able to use a CoronaDistance in the material applied to the grass, such that it had Opacity 0 outside of the boundary of the box.
