Maybe a bug. I found out that applying corona displacement to onesided objects causes the renderer to make spooky things. It renders only the lower part of the image. In my scene I have a tin flower pot which has only onesided geometry with a displacement applied to it. If I render the scene the upper half of the image is just pure black. When I apply a shell modifier to the pot everything renders fine. I am using max2001. Please see images:

this is really weird, and probably not caused by the displacement. Can you send me the scene (here: http://corona-renderer.com/upload/ )?

Ok, scene is uploaded. I Found out that some other spooky things are happening. Just play with the displacement/shell modifier settings of the gravel/Tin cup.
Any suggestions?

I am unable to reproduce the problem, but it is most likely caused by the embree spatialsplit structure.  You can try setting the acceleration structure to BVH, or Embree BVH4 (not the spatial one) to confirm (from the devel/debug tab, activated in the about tab). I've upgraded to the latest version of embree recently, so it is possible they fixed some bug causing this.

Ok, changing to bhv4 instanly crashes 3dsmax. The other acceleration structures too.

How did you update to the latest version?

Cheers, Dirk
