So I've got one master pc and one dr node, i can be rendering happily using DR, then the next time I press render, the node doesn't connect.  If I press 'Search on LAN' it doesn't find the node.  This is then the case in every file I open.  The only way to get it back is to restart the Master PC.

The weird part is the fact that machines can still communicate with each other through the network.  I can remote login to them from each other, they can both access the network drives etc.

Any ideas - it happens randomly but very frequently

So DR works for some time....then master stops seeing the node on the DR list?

Try this:
On the node: make sure there is ONLY ONE instance of the DR server (drserver.exe) running, and that there is ONLY ONE instance of 3ds Max running (the one spawned by the DR server).
On the master: make sure there is ONLY ONE instance of 3ds Max running.

If there is more than 1 DR server or 3ds Max running on any of the computers, various strange things may appear, including issues with the connection. We are aware of this limitation, and we are working on a solution, so that you would not be limited to just 1 3ds Max running on each PC (so that you can for example render in on Max and model in another).

I hope it's the solution. If not - we'll think of some other possible culprits.

I think you're right Maru

I often have multiple copies of Max open on the Master.  Although I've only just started experiencing this issue.

and one dr node

It should also work in any case by just adding the node to the slave list - not using "Search LAN during render" at all.

Good Luck
