Hi, I'm going to build workstation as a replacement for current i7-3930K setup for rendering in C4D. I'm thinking about xeon processors that are quite cheap on ebay.
Is it a good idea to build a workstation with them not a node? I don't have a room in my apartment for two computers.
Another question: have anyone tried ES (engineering sample) processors with corona? Is it wort it?

Thanks in advance

could you tell more about your budget and your CPU suggestion?
PS: I used an ES CPU before and it worked well

I was thinking about dual cpu ES E5-2697 v4 or 2699 or 2696v3 on modded bios. Are there now modded bios so we could run v4 on all cores turbo like on v3?
I have around 2,5k EUR. Next option is better one cpu and in some time buying second one. Or it will be best to go for a threadripper setup?

Do you guys encounter this issue with 2 cpu pc used as a workstation, not a node? https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=20408.msg127014#msg127014

Thanks

hi there

my setup is two separate 2683-v3 machines. i got them a couple years ago off ebay. these ones aren't ES they are OEM, they are a little bit more expensive than the ES ones but still way cheaper than retail ones. I'm looking to upgrade to Threadripper soon.

how you could evaluate it for yourself is by doing a price to R15 score ratio, find which is lower and choose that.
ie build each option on its own take the sum of all components and work your way from there
Although a purist, my work is anything but.

After some comparison and eol of e2600 series its just not worth to invest at the time into LGA 2011 if you need one workstation IMHO. Its just better deal to invest little more ang go for 2990WX.

Thanks
