Does corona have a clipper similar to vray?
Is so, where do I find it?

Nope, not even for 3ds Max, however it is on the roadmap: https://trello.com/b/EfPE4kPx/corona-road-map-3ds-max

I've seen this done with the distance map, or am I missing something?

You can use distance map in opacity slot with some success, but it's not the same as true clipper. Clipper will be more advanced, more convenient to use and hopefully will render faster.

That sounds sweet, looking forward to that.
