Hi chaps,

Testing CoronaOutput to try to stop maps from being affected by tone mapping.

It seems that in order to get a map (say a background plate photo) to be totally unaffected by VFB tone mapping you can only really achieve this when using this inside an override slot such as Direct visibility override. If you use this on a map which is on an object in the scene, for example a large sphere or cylinder, it doesn't appear to work fully - it does ignore certain things like major exposure changes but not important things like WB etc.

Is this a bug or a limitation, and is there any workaround? We're loading some manually-mapped cylinders into view files to be used as reflection drivers, so unfortuantely they can't easily be used in override slots. Having this functionality work on in-scene objects would be extremely beneficial...

Thanks,
Alex York

We've managed to reproduce this issue and are looking into it to find out if it's a bug or a limitation. We'll update you as soon as there's more information.

We've looked into this and it's currently a limitation of the TonemapControl map. It was initially intended to only be used for the environment maps.
We're hoping to have it work on objects in the scene soon, in a future version of Corona, but it won't make it into V3.

Is the manner in which you're trying to use it common in your workflow?

Can the reflections, perhaps, be replaced in post? Via the reflection render element maybe? Or try using a CoronaLight material for the objects that need TonemapControl applied?
Unfortunately, we don't have any workarounds for this yet as we have not had it reported as a problem previously.

That's cool. It's not super common, no, but I doubt we're the only studio using this technique occasionally. I'll try the coronalight material workaround.
