Hi all.

In Vray I go through the following process to create a VR image.

  • Add in a stereoscopic node
    • Tick adjust resolution (doubles the with of the rendered image)
    • Set the eye distance to 0.065m
  • In render settings I set it to  Spherical Panorama and change some settings
  • Set the res to 4096x1080 - This creates a 8192x1080 render
  • In After Effects I have a comp size on 4096x2160. This is so I can split up the left and right part of the image.
I'm a little confused about the Corona method.

I've seen some tutorials for Corona that have different methods for setting up VR.  Some add in a Corona Camera mod.  One person added it to their Corona camera, which didn't make sense to me because the option is in the camera already.  I'm not sure if I'm looking at outdated reference.

Anyway, after some tests it looks like I need to
  • Tick the VR checkbox in my Corona camera
  • Set it to Spherical 360
  • Enter the final resolution in my render settings.  For example, 4096x2160.  The same res as my AE comp size
Does that seem correct to people?

Something else I'm a bit confused about is the eye distance.  I've always set it to 0.065m.  In Corona, it seems to be set to 0.063.

Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Hi. Been some time since I worked with stereo panoramas, bus IIRC a "mono" spherical render should be with a 2:1 ratio (for example 4096 x 2048) and a stereo spherical render (top-bottom) should be with a ratio 1:1 (for example 4096 x 4096).

Hope it helps

Hi, indeed our helpdesk guides on VR are outdated, sorry for this, we will update them ASAP!

The solution is:
-Use Corona Camera
-Select the Corona Camera > Projection & VR > Type > Spherical, Virtual Reality > Enable
-Set resolution to 1:1 ratio (e.g. 4096 x 4096 px)
-Render

Usually there is no need to change any other settings at all (like eye separation). Like the rest of Corona, this should work out of the box.
If you REALLY need to change something, you are free to do it. For example, you may need to lower the eye offset if you want to make the viewer feel "smaller" compared to the environment (or in other words - to make the enviro feel less claustrophobic - e.g. interior of a car), or increase it to make him feel bigger.
