I have not been able to open a single VRAY scene in Corona 2. Every scene I bought in Evermotion.org gets all sorts of Vray errors. I know certain features are not supported, but because I don't have Vray installed I cannot open the scene, render it and all the materials are red (unsupported material). And when I try to convert with the corona converter nothing happens, probably because 3ds max doesn't recognize the materials in the first place, as they are Vray... therefor the converter cannot open the scene. Am I doing something wrong ? Because currently both the converter and corona 2 vray support is useless to me without having Vray in the first place.

Some clarification:

1) Corona Renderer currently supports only the VrayMtl, VrayLight and VrayVolumeGrid.
See: https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000046990
If there is a VrayLight or VrayMtl in the scene you are opening, it will render, even if V-Ray is not installed. But only that.

2) "all sorts of Vray errors" - it would help if you showed the actual errors you are getting :)

3) If you do not have Vray installed, you may not be able to open a scene, but you should be able to merge it into an empty one.

4) Red (unsupported) materials mean that they cannot be "read" by Corona. You may be able to convert them using the converter script, but you need V-Ray installed for this.

5) The current implementation of V-Ray support is just the beginning. We are planning to improve this, so the assets could be fully exchangeable between the two render engines without any need for conversion, and with having only one if them installed.

Suggested solution: install V-Ray demo (it can be even an expired demo license), and then use the Converter Script.

Hi thanks for answering, here are the errors when opening, even if I merge and only import the objects:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gvh18qw6zugq4uu/vrayerrors.jpg?dl=0

Materials aren't even visible in Corona renderer, as in not listed in scene materials when I import.
and the result is this:

thanks for the tip about Vray demo btw, Ill try that :)

So some errors, like the 2-sided, are just because 2-sided is not supported (at the moment). It looks like these are from V-Ray back in 2012, and Corona current only supports newer V-Ray materials (as noted on the release info, and on the help page, V-Ray 3.60 or newer - https://coronarenderer.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/12000046990-what-v-ray-features-are-supported-)

Earlier versions of V-Ray materials may work, or may not, depends on whether the material set up was changed since then, and the only guaranteed support is with 3.60 or newer. Hope this helps!

thanks! Yeah sadly a lot of the 3d models you buy in libraries are often "old". But the trick you suggested works! :) So thanks again for that, hopefully it will let me read vray files after the demo as long as I dont render anything in vray.
