Hi,

I started rendering but noticed at some point that I need to make some changes so stopped it. After making changes I wanted to  only region render there but the previous render didn't stay there so I have to combine bunch of two render elements in Photoshop but realized I can't save alpha channel with EXR.

Anyway, is there any way I can region render changes on top of the previous render so that I can output only 1 EXR file? Luckily, I stored current VFB both of them.

I need to send this file tomorrow morning and it's midnight now. Please let me know as soon as possible.

Hi,

You need to uncheck clear vfb inbetween renders in render setup>system tab.

Thank you, romullus. You saved my life!

If I save a render with CXR, close Max and open the file later, can I resume the region render after making some changes?

After you reset the scene, the region will be retained, but VFB will be blank, so you have to render from scratch. Although there is possibility to save cxr and resume from it later, i don't know how it works when region rendering is involved.
