Looks like it is the artefact caused by sharpening / blurring from a bright light source, as reported at
https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=19127.msg119802#new

A fix is in the Max daily builds as of Feb 8th (https://forum.corona-renderer.com/index.php?topic=17972.msg120416#msg120416 )

Well, not quite. I took all the suggestions regarding closing other programs to free up space, but it seems that the cause of the slow rendering seems to be the objects within the project it's self. In fact, render times have gone up, to about 30 minutes a frame now to be exact. I think it may have something to do with the landscapes, but i'm not sure. Also, at this rate it would take approximately 65 hours to fully render my animation. (130 frames or so). It's a little concerning given the fact i'm yet to add anything like clouds, fog, or trees/foilage. I'm still figuring out where to get the models that have good rendering times.

This one took 37 minutes to render. I'm getting worried when it comes to how long will Cinema 4D's preset trees render. I think i'll try porting some low poly trees from the Source Engine.
