Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has the experience of switching from Max to other software and is happy with the decision.
I’m considering cinema 4d only because more firms are requesting freelancers with maya or c4d experience.

Thank you

I have been a max head for years , first year I have not updated the subscription.
Way too expensive and for very little upgrade every year.

So I will be using max that I have for the future, but eventually will move on I am sure.
I am a dreamer, that one day, I will hope to building everything in unreal directly.
I was the same way about max , when I  moved from Formz 15 years ago.

I used to make use of 3dsmax. It still the best archviz wise, very intuitive but I moved to Blender and it's free ( no need to worry about subscriptions payment). 3dsmax is quite pricey considering my location atm so I had to move to something else. Blender seems to fit all my needs currently. I have also noticed a lot of professionals switching to it too.

If there is any reason to switch back to 3dsmax, it would be because of Corona renderer. Loved using it with 3dsmax even with the A6 version. The renderer works seamlessly with it. I might have to discontinue using Corona renderer with Blender due to bump/displacement limitations and switch to cycles for now and with eevee (realtime renderer). Things are looking even better.

I still miss 3dsmax and would be willing and still use it if it's required by a studio or client but for now, Blender seems to work just fine. With Unreal, its even better as the 3d application used for making assets doesn't matter. Cost of production gets greatly reduced with quality of work still very high and photorealistic.

Ah Modo. I tried it in the past. Had a really nice fast renderer if I remember correctly :- )

I haven't really heard of Maya being used for archviz. It is heavily used for films and games though.
