It has been requested roughly 100 times, I am not even pulling that number up :- ). I did request it at least 20 times myself.
Strange about your search result but it's like on every third page of "Most requested features" Thread. Alongside advanced shader.

Super happy to see it on Trello finally. But 3 to 6 months for clear coat alone ? I guess full advanced shader (option for metallic workflow, fabric sheen, alternative diffuse BRDF/Diffuse roughness/etc...) is much further in pipeline then, if at all.
