check this if you have RAM what not in this list it can be compatibility issues, and updating bios can be solve problem as they adding compatibility  in new versions.
About network card do not worry i just tell as example, it's not your case. In eventlog you should check red icons with errors and read info about it or google error numbers to see what it cause

The reason I mention the network card is because windows crashed when I tried to use it, since I run on wire LAN, I didn't care, but if that issue was also fixed with firmware update, I would be more comfortable keeping the mobo.

nope in bios change log nothing about LAN, you should check driver update for that

I updated to latest bios, I haven't seen a crash since, but it's only been a few hours.  It used to crash after only a few minutes, so I'm feeling good about this.
