Curved Monitors?

Hi all - I'm shopping for a new monitor(s) and contemplating going curved.  I've seen varying feedback including it helps with eye strain (something I suffer from), you run the risk of having distorted lines, it's a gimmick, etc.  Does anyone have any feedback on this?  All the interns at the architecture office where I work have curved screens (U3415W's) and they seem fairly happy with them.  But a bunch of sleep deprived architecture interns aren't necessarily the most discerning group :)

I'm specifically looking at one of the Dell 34" screens (either the U3415W or the U3417W, can't decide) or else going huge with the Samsung CHG90.  Has anyone used any of those?  It seems the Samsung is a pretty rare monitor, I don't see many reviews, despite seeming like a potentially awesome solution.

I was using a curved Samsung for 2 months, and honestly I did not feel any difference compared to a flat one. Neither better/worse eye strain, nor issues with straight lines.
But maybe someone with longer experience should help.

Thanks Maru!  Was your Samsung a large monitor?

I think it was 27" or a bit larger.

Just as an FYI for anyone reading this thread at a later date I eneded up getting two Dell 34" U3417W's.  They're basically a slightly newer version of the U3415W's.  They have a sharper curve (better for dual I thought) less backlight bleed, better speakers (not a biggie but nice), thinner bezel, etc.

Anyway...so far, loving them.  They come pre-calibrated like other Ultrasharps, each with their own 'calibration report.'  The color seems to be very true and also the monitors very closely match each other, which is nice.  The curve is also good...nothing I notice day-to-day but I bet I'd miss it if it were gone.  Especially with dual screens.

Anyhow, love them and would recommend them.  The only issue I have so far is that on a fresh boot they don't show a signal with Display Port, only HDMI.  This seems to be kind of a common issue with 1080 Ti cards though...might just end up using HDMI.

Wait, so you have two 34" curved monitors next to each other? So this is basically you during a workday yes?:



Also, yeah I'm having the same signal issue on boot when using display port on nvidia cards. It definitely prioritizes the other ports.

Heh heh heh...'Where did my VFB go???'  I swear though, it's great.  Netflix far right, material editor next to that, and then 3ds max full screen on my left monitor with layers and the modifier panel flown out.  Perfection.

And yeah, I'm now doing HDMI on the 'main' monitor which makes it boot ok and then Displayport on the 2nd.  Bizarre.

No Displayport issues here an I have multiple PCs with GTX 1080Ti (and 1080) cards. All I use is DP, never HDMI. If I had issues with DP I'd kill someone, since I also game and G-Sync is a MUST for me :)
