I'm using the beta, and my material previews in the c4d perspective view are really rough. I've tried changing the material preview size in the Preview pane of the material settings, but it makes no difference. Is this normal behaviour or a bug?

Hi Mitchino!

Sorry to hear your having problems - I'm not quite sure what problem you are experiencing is though. Could you share some screengrabs showing what you mean? A material preview usually refers to the sphere in the material editor section of C4D, but you mention perspective view so I think you mean the way the material looks in the C4D viewport?

Thanks!

I do. In the material editor there is a preview tab, where you can set the viewport preview size. This has nothing to do with the small sphere preview, but affects the resolution of image maps in the main viewport windows. You can set the preview to 64 x64, 128 x 128 etc etc. I see no difference in the preview above 256 x 256. The same functionality exists in the c4d standard material editor and most 3rd party renderers and I use it all the time.

TY! Now I see what you are referring to - I get the same result. The Viewport preview size parameter in a Corona Material only has an effect on the quality of the preview in the viewport up to 256x256, and values higher than that do not show increased quality. A native C4D material works as expected and the higher values in its equivalent preview setting continue to raise the quality in the realtime viewport.

Image attached of the setting in the Corona Material, and the HDRI image used on the sphere won't get any sharper with 512x512 and up. Test was C4D R19, and Corona Sep 29th build.

EDIT just for comparison, a grab using the same HDRI in a native C4D material.

I just wanted to reaffirm the problem because I kind of negated it in the daily build topic. Going above 256x256 doesn't do anything to the texture - it stays at 256x256.

Tested on W8.1, R18.057 and the latest daily build (9.10.2017).
