I've been trying to create this wet ground, but everytime I try to put a Noise Shader in a Layers channel in Diffuse, it just crashes. It also crashes when it's on a bump. Help?

Is there anything one can do to workaround this crashes? Noises are such an important part in whatever I do in 3D it's hard to not use them (a main reason why I use Corona very rarely, even if it feels way faster than the standard physical renderer of C4D).

Sometimes I have the impression that this is more like a race issue (when I work very slowly and always wait until the preview sphere has fully calculated before I continue it seems I don't crash as often.)

I'm still with R16, if that matters. Using the latest version of Corona (A6.4  (core 1.5 ))

In a simple test here, I didn't get a crash with the latest daily in either approach, but if one crashes for you, you might try the other

- Single CoronaMtl, with C4D native Layer shader in the Diffuse, with two colors set as layers and a Noise as a Layer set to Layer Mask mode.

- A CoronaLayer material, with two separate CoronaMtls inside it so that each has a separate Diffuse channel with the color set as needed, and the Noise used as a Mask for the non-base layer

The first approach would be preferred of course, as quicker and simpler to evaluate one Material than two, but if one approach is causing crashes at the moment, you could try the other and see if that lets you work around it for now.

Usually it just very quickly triggers a slow death (beachball + eventually crash). Not much of a chance really. I tried all kind of things, but once you crashed the 30th time... you get bored testing it further. :) Sometimes one is lucky and can copy'n'paste a Noise setup from a C4D material over. But saving between each step in the hope it won't crash just makes working with it impossible. And I'm too lazy to bake everything down into image files via C4D native setups. :)

Even keeping the noises in 2D mode doesn't help a thing.

I just crashed... first try with the new Corona beta... 😢

I made a gold material... activated the bump channel... added a noise... material preview updated fine... went back into the noise and C4D locked up (I saw the noise UI controls, but C4D's own noise preview was no longer showing in the preview area).

Still R16 here (I made sure the R16 version of Corona was installed, of course)

/edit

Forgot to mention... OS X version on a slow Mac mini (maybe a slow machine triggers the bug faster? This is often the case for race issues ;) )
