I can open EXR's in PS just fine, but I can't open CRX's. Is there a trick?

Save it as EXR or rename the CXR to EXR. Beware that PS won't read the Corona specific data that's part of the CXR format.

I tried renaming, but it still failed. I wanted all the elements to be saved as one file. If PS isn't suggested, what would be?

It depends on what you are planning to do with the file. Fusion could be a good start, and it's free.
Also, this plugin should make loading of channels baked into EXRs easier in PS: http://www.exr-io.com/
