I have a scene that has at most 100 light sources in it but some of them are lightmaterials.
Just a query. How does the lights in scene stats relate to lightmaterial sources?
It think i have over 3000 lights in the scene but its a tiny room with two lamps and a ceiling grid.
Any ideas?

I think each face counts as a light when it comes to lightmaterial

I implemented it sending numbers in there, then checked it and it always shown zeroes for some reason. I kept the code in, in case it worked at least in some other versions of 3dsmax. Apparently it does ;)
